Vidova Gora – Hike from Bol

After our visit to the beach at Lovrečina Bay, we continued our road trip through Croatia by going to the town Bol. Our first stop in the town Bol will be a hike to the top of the mountain Vidova Gora. The Vidova Gora is the highest mountain on the island of Brač. From the top, you have a wonderful view of the surroundings and the Zlatni Rat beach.

The hike to the top is quite heavy though. We did it on a hot day and were very tired when we arrived back at Bol. The total hiking time for us was about 4 hours. If you don’t feel like making the hike to the top, you can also drive by car to the top of the Vidova Gora.

Hike the Vidova Gora

The hike starts north of the town Bol. We parked our car next to the UI. Gornje Podbarje road (here). Further up the road, there are some more parking spots. It was around noon when we arrived at the parking place for the hike. And it was hot 🌡️.

From the parking spot just follow the road north, in the direction of the mountains. You’ll see a sign pointing at Vidova Gora next to the road. This is the only sign though, after that you’ll have to follow markers.

From there you just follow the red and white markers. Just follow the red circle with a white dot in the middle. If you need to change directions, there will be a circle with 2 ‘legs’. In this case, you need to follow the direction of the bend. The trail is well marked. So it is quite easy to follow.

The total hike to the top of the Vidova Gora took us 3 hours. It was a very warm day and it’s at some points quite steep. The loose gravel also doesn’t make the hike easier. It was quite a challenge for us, but I’ve read on other sites that it’s a moderate hike. So I’m guessing the heat is what made it challenging when we did the hike.

The View from Vidova Gora

After 3 tiresome hours, we arrived at the top. The view from there is beautiful. From the top, you can see the Adriatic Sea and the island Hvar on the horizon. You can also see Zlatni Rat beach in the town of Bol. But the beach is quite far away though.

We found it a pity we didn’t take a camera with us on the hike to the top of the mountain. We only had our phones with us, and the photos we took of Zlatni Rat beach aren’t that good. So that’s a bummer after 3 hours of sweating on the hot and steep hike to the top of Vidova Gora.

Descend back to Bol

After taking some pictures, eating some snacks, and especially taking some well-deserved rest, we descended again. It was already later on the day, so the sun wasn’t that hot anymore. The hike back down only took us about 1 hour. Our pace was much better than going up.

After we arrived at Bol, we checked into our apartment. We unpacked and looked for a place to go for dinner. As we were quite exhausted by the hike, we didn’t want to go very far. We went out for pizza 🍕 and wine at Pizzeria Navis.

Driving to Vidova Gora

Driving to the top of Vidova Gora is quite simple. Just follow the directions of your GPS to the location on Google Maps (here). The roads are paved so any car should be able to get there. From the parking lot, it will take about 15’ to reach the viewpoint.
