Brač is one of the most well-known islands of Croatia. It is located in the Adriatic Sea and is the largest island in Dalmatia. Whenever you say Brač, people immediately think about 2 things: Zlatni Rat and the mountain Vidova Gora

Travelling to Brač

Brač is one of only two Croatian islands that has its own airport. The airport is located near Bol and has flights to and from around ten European countries. So getting to Brač shouldn’t be difficult at all! You can always take the ferry as well. There are 2 ferry ports on the island of Brač. One located in Supetar that takes you to the mainland of Croatia, to Split. The other one is located in Sumartin. That one will also take you to the mainland of Croatia, to Makarska.

If you would like to know more about taking the ferry to Croatia, please read our article

A Fun Fact on Brač

Did you know that Brač is the only island of Croatia that doesn’t have a town with the same name as the island? So there is no town called Brač? That actually is really rare as you have the island Krk, with the town Krk. There is the town Cres, on the island of Cres…

Brač – Best Places to Visit

Below you can find an overview of the best things to do when you’re visiting the beautiful island Brač.

Zlatni Rat Beach

Zlatni Rat Beach, also known by the names Golden Cape or Golden Horn, is a very popular beach in the town of Bol. The beach is known for its unique pointy shape reaching out as a land tongue into the sea. With a beach full of small white pebbles and the azure blue waters, it’s a true paradise to visit. The craziest thing about this beach is that it has an ever-changing coastline, depending on the current!

Several large travel organizations have included Zlatni Rat on their list of top beaches in Europe. Well deserved in our opinion. We’ve also listed Zlatni Rat as one of the top 10 destinations in Croatia.

Hiking the Vidova Gora

The mountain Vidova Gora is the highest peak (780 m, 2560 ft) of all the islands in the Adriatic Sea, so you know the views are going to be spectacular. This is a very challenging hike, but it’s really worth the hard work. For more details on this hike, please read our hike on Vidova Gora. If you don’t feel like hiking to the top of the mountain, you can also drive there. We covered this in our article as well.

Blaca Monastery

If you love to see ancient hermitages, this is a place you’ll want to go to! It’s called Pustinja Blaca in Croatian. You can find this Blaca hermitage on the south-side of Brač. You can also do a guided tour if you want to know all about it.

Dominican Monastery

The Dominican Monastery is located near the town of Bol. When you walk on the coastline in the opposite direction of Zlatni Rat, you will find this Monastery. It’s a beautiful tranquil place and has a few small beaches around it as well.

Lovrečina Bay

Another great beach on the island of Brač is Lovrečina Bay beach. The beach parking is reachable by a dirt road and the bay is located in an inlet on the north of the island. This beach is a sand beach with shallow water, so an ideal place to relax and to visit with kids. While swimming or tanning, you also have great views of the Croatian mainland.

From the beach, you can also follow a trail along the shores if you want to hike a bit during your visit. Another option for your visit to Lovrečina bay is to go to the nearby archeological ruins (5’ from the beach).

If you include the island Brač on your itinerary, make sure not to miss out on this wonderful beach. Check out our guide to Lovrečina Bay for more details.

Supetar Bay Brač

The town Supetar is where you’ll find one of the two ferry ports on Brač. It’s also the largest town on the island. Supetar is a charming historical town with a lot of good bars and restaurants. The town is located on the north side of the island making the ferry trip to Split short.

Supetar has many beaches where you can go to for all of your water activities. The best-rated beaches close to Supetar are Acapulco Beach, beach Tri Mosta and Beach Supetrus.

Zmajeva Spilja / Dragon Cave

The Dragon Cave – Zmajeva Spilja in Croatian – is another gem for those who love ancient buildings. The Dragon Cave is one of four monasteries you can find on the island. If you may believe the many reviews, then Zoran is the man you want to get in touch with! He is a passionate guide who wants to tell you all of the wonders of these caves and more.

Boat Excursions to the Blue Cave or Another Island

One last thing to mention is that from the island of Brač you have a lot of options for excursions to other islands nearby or to the famous Blue Cave. Several excursion agents are available on the island. One of those is Nautic Center in Bol.

A guided tour is something we do not do very often, so we can’t tell you about our experience. But it can be some of the best ways to go to some extraordinary places like the Blue Cave or a visit to nearby islands. If you would decide to do an excursion by boat, we’d love to hear your story!
